QRMP Scheme: Quarterly Return और Monthly Payment कैसे काम करते हैं?

Quarterly return filing does not remove the need for monthly records and payment review.

Read for preparation. Confirm the current official requirements for your facts and reporting period before filing or paying.

The QRMP framework combines quarterly returns with monthly payment responsibilities for eligible taxpayers. Eligibility, option windows, filing frequency and the applicable payment method need to be checked on the portal. The GSTN manual explains how to change or select filing frequency. [1]

Confirm the option and customer needs

Check whether the GSTIN is actually on quarterly or monthly filing for the relevant period. Consider business-to-business invoice reporting and any available invoice-furnishing facility. A sales team’s promise about customer credit should match the taxpayer’s reporting process, not a presumed monthly cycle.

Maintain a month-by-month close

Keep three separate monthly records even where the return is quarterly. Reconcile payments made during the quarter against the final liability and credit position. Agree who calculates deposits, who approves them and how supporting challans are stored. Do not wait until the quarter closes to discover a missing purchase register. [1] [2]

Practical preparation checklist

  • Confirmed portal filing frequency and effective quarter.
  • Monthly sales/purchases and any invoice-furnishing decisions.
  • Payment method, deposits and cash-ledger reconciliation.
  • Quarter-close review and return acknowledgements.

Illustrative example

A business opts for quarterly returns but its accountant receives records only once every three months. That arrangement can miss monthly payment checks. A better engagement schedules monthly data collection with a separate quarterly finalisation step.

Avoid this mistake

Do not advertise QRMP as “file once and forget for three months.” Verify eligibility and current deadlines for the actual period. Changing frequency is a planned decision, not merely a way to postpone compliance when records are delayed.
