PRACTICAL BUSINESS GUIDE

GSTR-1 और GSTR-3B में क्या अंतर है? Sales Reporting और Tax Payment

Understand the two workflows and reconcile them instead of assuming one filing completes both.

Read for preparation. Confirm the current official requirements for your facts and reporting period before filing or paying.

GSTR-1 is associated with outward-supply reporting, while GSTR-3B is the summary return used for liability and input-credit reporting. Portal comparison reports bring these datasets together. Filing one does not mean the other has been completed or that all figures have automatically reconciled. [1] [2]

Prepare from one controlled ledger

Use a single approved period-close workbook for sales, credit notes, exports and relevant adjustments. Document how the outward-supply figures connect to GSTR-3B. Separately reconcile ITC and reverse-charge entries; these do not arise only from the sales register. Keep copies of the final submitted datasets.

Explain timing and correction differences

A mismatch may come from period differences, amendments, classification errors or missing records. List the cause and action for each difference rather than overwriting one total to match another. Use the applicable correction facility for the period and confirm its effect on both the supplier and recipient reporting. [2]

Practical preparation checklist

  • Outward-supply register and relevant amendment details.
  • GSTR-1/IFF/GSTR-1A and GSTR-3B datasets for the period.
  • ITC/reverse-charge inputs and tax-payment evidence.
  • A difference sheet with reviewer approval and resolution status.

Illustrative example

A credit note is recorded in the books after the sales statement was prepared. The preparer checks whether the current correction workflow is available and updates the reconciliation. Simply lowering a GSTR-3B total without documenting the reason makes later review harder.

Avoid this mistake

Do not describe GSTR-1 as a substitute for payment or GSTR-3B as a full invoice register. Ask your filing provider whether the engagement includes a cross-return reconciliation and who approves unexplained differences before submission.
