A registration clarification asks the applicant to address identified questions or deficiencies. Read the full notice, relevant application reference and response period shown on the portal. The GST registration guidance includes a clarification workflow; the response is not a fresh guarantee of approval. [1]
Make a query-to-evidence table
Create one row for each issue: the question, your factual explanation, supporting document and any form field needing correction. A premises query needs premises evidence; an authorisation query needs proof of authority. Keep the answer short but complete. Where a requested fact is wrong, explain the correction and supporting record instead of ignoring the issue.
Submit and preserve the trail
Check that the response is filed against the correct ARN/notice. Review every attachment before authentication and retain the submission acknowledgement. A draft response sitting on a computer or an email to an agent does not establish portal submission. If a deadline cannot be met or the query raises a legal issue, seek prompt case-specific advice.
Practical preparation checklist
- Complete notice, ARN, issue date and response deadline.
- Original submitted application and document copies.
- Numbered response and evidence matched to each query.
- Submission acknowledgement and a follow-up owner.
Illustrative example
The officer asks why the rent agreement and electricity bill show different unit numbers. A useful reply identifies the actual unit and provides genuine corroboration. Uploading the same bank statement again does not answer the address question.
Avoid this mistake
Do not assume every clarification is arbitrary or every request is automatically lawful. Review its basis, answer accurately and escalate a disputed requirement through the appropriate process. Never alter a utility bill, backdate a consent or submit a fabricated tenancy to avoid scrutiny.
