How to prepare a GST registration readiness pack
Organise a GST registration readiness pack by applicant type and premises. Keep public enquiries separate from private identity-document uploads.
Make an index before sending documents
Create a short index with three groups: applicant, signatory and business premises. Add the business constitution and the state at the top. This helps the person reviewing the pack identify missing information without guessing which file belongs to whom. It also avoids the common mistake of sending an entire personal archive when only a defined set is needed.
Match the pack to the case
Use the GST service page's interactive checklist rather than a screenshot of someone else's list. The official portal distinguishes business, stakeholder, signatory and location information. Premises evidence varies with ownership, rental or consent. Ask the team about an unusual case rather than assuming every applicant must submit every document mentioned online.
Check consistency, not just file count
Before uploading, compare the spelling of names and the office address across the records you intend to provide. Make the PIN code readable. Avoid blurred scans, cropped edges or unclear filenames. If a record is outdated or does not reflect the business situation, explain that fact; do not alter a document to make the pack appear complete.
Keep the enquiry light
A public enquiry needs only enough detail to identify the service. Do not attach PAN/Aadhaar images, complete bank statements, passwords or one-time codes there. After the scope is agreed and an order exists, use the authenticated workspace for the requested files. Avoid collecting documents from unrelated people or forwarding another customer's records as examples.
Confirm the next action
A readiness pack is not proof that an application has been submitted. Agree who will prepare the application, who will review it, and which applicant approvals are required. Keep a record of unresolved questions and the agreed deliverable. The authority controls the outcome; the service team should explain progress without promising an approval date it cannot control.
Take the next step with a clear scope.
Choose the service and review the applicable charges. A quotation is not an authority submission or an automatic payment.
